01How VECL works
VECL is a franchise T20 league. In Melbourne, three franchises play turf T20 tournaments each December and again from March, with JT20 and junior competitions through the season. In Chennai, four franchises play their first season on Sundays from January to April 2027.
Above the league sits the High Performance International Pathway (HPIP), run with the Karnataka Institute of Cricket in Bengaluru. It is a separate programme with its own try-out. A player can do the season, the pathway, or both.
02Registering
Registrations and payments are taken in the Elite booking app, not on a form, so each registration is attached to your account and you can see where it stands. You register for the season — not for a franchise — and squads are picked from everyone who registers.
Players from anywhere in Australia, and from overseas, may register. What decides eligibility is the age group, and proof of age.
03Selection
The registration fee pays for the selection session, not for a place in a squad. Selectors decide on what they see, and selection decisions are final.
For the HPIP, everyone who tries out is told where they stand. In Chennai, the selection panel drafts players across the four clubs after the selection days on 6 and 13 December — families do not choose a club.
04Costs
Registration is $20 for the Melbourne December season, and $20 for the HPIP try-out. VECL Chennai registration is ₹250. Uniforms are paid for by the player.
The HPIP programme price — what it includes, what it does not, and the payment schedule — is presented at the Player & Parent Information Session, Sunday 18 October 2026. Nothing beyond the $20 try-out fee is payable until a place is offered and accepted.
05Uniforms
Uniforms — playing shirt, trousers and cap — are provided by the franchise and paid for by the player. A player not in the correct uniform may not take part in training, matches or other league events.
06Try-outs and training
HPIP trials: Wednesday 4 November & Monday 9 November 2026, 7:00pm–9:00pm — Wednesday at the Junction Oval indoor centre, St Kilda; Monday at the Elite Cricket Academy, Hoppers Crossing. Arrive at 6:45pm. Indoor trials covering batting, bowling and fielding. Arrive in full kit, with water.
A player who cannot attend — from interstate or overseas — should contact us before the trials and is assessed another way. Selected HPIP players have squad sessions in Melbourne before departure.
07Matches and weather
Melbourne matches are played on turf, with appointed officials, scoring and statistics. December 2026 match days are 24, 27, 28, 29 and 30 December; venues are announced with the draw.
Whether play goes ahead in rain or extreme heat, and the lightning rule, are set out in the weather policy.

08Medical
Tell us at registration about any medical condition, allergy, injury or medication that could matter during a match, and keep it up to date. It is held in the booking app for the staff who need it, along with an emergency contact — keep that number current.
First aid kits are provided at league matches. An injured player returns to training or matches on the advice of a doctor or of their parent. In an emergency, call 000.
09Child safety
Every player, parent, spectator, coach and official is bound by the league’s codes of conduct. The league’s Child Safety Policy is being finalised and will be published in the policy centre.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 000. Any other concern about a child’s safety or wellbeing: email info@vecl.au with “Child safety concern” in the subject line.
10Photographs and media
Matches are photographed and streamed live. Close-ups and names of identifiable players are published only with a parent’s consent, chosen level by level at registration; players without it are kept to wide shots. Coaching and analysis footage is a condition of the High Performance International Pathway (HPIP).
To ask about a photograph, or to change or withdraw consent, email info@vecl.au.
11Communication
Registration, payment and selection updates are handled in the booking app and by email. Questions go to info@vecl.au and are answered by a person.
12Travel and the international pathway
The December HPIP squad leaves Melbourne on 13 December for eight days at KIOC in Bengaluru, staying in quality 3–4 star hotel accommodation, then returns for the VECL December tournament.
Every arrangement for a player under 18 is made with a parent or guardian from the outset. Supervision, accommodation, medical arrangements and duty of care are set out in writing before travel. We cannot advise on visas or immigration — those are matters for the relevant authorities.
13Refunds and withdrawals
If a player withdraws, or cannot attend selection after registering, the league’s cancellation fee applies. Cancellations cannot be accommodated within fourteen days of a tournament starting, and are treated as a forfeit. Missed matches are not refunded.
The HPIP programme has its own refund and withdrawal terms, set out in writing before anything beyond the try-out fee is paid.
