Medical and Emergency Policy

The risk

Playing sport carries a risk of injury. The league takes the precautions set out below, but a player may be injured while playing.

What the league provides

First aid kits are provided at league matches.

What remains with players and parents

Players, parents and guardians are responsible for taking adequate care, and for satisfying themselves that a player is fit to take part.

Where a player has a medical condition, an allergy, an injury or takes medication that could matter during a match, that information must be given at registration, and kept up to date if it changes. It is held in the booking application and is available to the staff who need it.

Players and parents should read this policy before deciding to take part in try-outs, training or matches.

Emergency contacts

An emergency contact is collected at registration. Keep it current — it is the number that gets called.

Injured players returning

Coaches and officials will follow the advice of a doctor, or of the player’s parent, in deciding whether an injured player is ready to return to training or competition.

What this policy does not yet cover

Stated plainly rather than left to be discovered:

• Insurance. Whether the league holds public liability or personal accident cover, what it covers, and how a claim is made, is not recorded here.
• What happens in an emergency at a ground — who takes charge, who calls an ambulance, who contacts the parent, and in what order.
• First aid qualifications — whether a qualified first aider is present, and to what level.
• The international pathway. Medical arrangements for players travelling overseas are a separate matter and are not covered by this policy.
