Player Code of Conduct
What every player agrees to, on the field and off it, and what happens if it is breached.
In addition to Laws 41 (Unfair Play) and 42 (Players’ Conduct), every player abides by this code and by the Spirit of Cricket.
As a player
- I will always play by the rules and in the Spirit of the Game.
- I will never argue with an official. If I disagree with a decision I will tell my captain, coach or manager during a break or after the match.
- I will control my temper. Verbal abuse of officials, sledging other players, and deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are unacceptable in any sport. Abusing equipment or displays of bad temper are not permitted.
- I will work equally hard for myself and for my team.
- I will be a good sport and applaud good play, whether by my team or the opposition.
- I will treat all players as I would like to be treated. I will not bully anyone or take unfair advantage of another competitor.
- I will wear proper and approved cricket attire and the required safety equipment on the field, and I will cooperate with my coach, my team and my opponents.
- I will show modesty in victory and grace in defeat.
- I will respect the rights, dignity and worth of everyone involved in the game, whatever their gender, ability or cultural background.
- I will thank the opposition and the officials at the end of the match.
The Spirit of Cricket
From the Laws of Cricket, 2017 Code:
- Cricket owes much of its appeal to being played according to the Laws and within the Spirit of Cricket.
- Responsibility for fair play rests first with the captains, but extends to all players, match officials, teachers, coaches and parents — especially in junior cricket.
- Respect is central to the Spirit of Cricket. Respect your captain, your teammates, your opponents and the umpires’ authority. Play hard and play fair.
- Accept the umpire’s decision.
- Create a positive atmosphere by your own conduct, and encourage others to do the same. Show self-discipline, even when things go against you.
- Congratulate the opposition on their successes and enjoy your own team’s. Thank the officials and the opposition at the end of the match, whatever the result.
Under Law 1.4, captains are responsible at all times for ensuring play is conducted within the Spirit of Cricket and the Laws.
Violence
There is no place for violence on or off the field, between players, team staff or supporters. Where violence occurs the committee may impose whatever sanction is needed to make clear it is not part of the game and will not be tolerated.
Smoking
Smoking is banned in all spectator areas and on sports grounds during organised sporting events. Nobody attending a junior cricket match or training session may smoke in any spectator area.
If this code is breached
A player found to have breached this code may receive a warning, a suspension, or expulsion from the tournament and from league activities. These decisions rest with the league’s management committee.
The league may amend this code without notice.

A separate company and payment account for the league are being set up; when that happens the affected policies are re-issued with a new version and effective date.
