Parent and Spectator Code of Conduct

Everyone on the boundary is part of the match. These are the standards the league holds parents, guardians and supporters to.

On the boundary

• I will remember that players take part for enjoyment, and that winning is only part of it. I will never ridicule or shout at a player for making a mistake or for losing.
• I will be reasonable in what I ask of players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
• I will operate within the rules and the Spirit of the Game, and teach players to do the same.
• I will make sure the time a player spends with me is a positive experience. Every player deserves equal attention and opportunity.
• I will not overplay the talented players, and I understand that every player needs and deserves time in the game.
• I will not use foul language, and I will not harass players, officials, spectators or coaches.
• I will show control, respect and professionalism towards everyone involved — opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents and spectators — and encourage players to do the same.
• I will show concern and caution towards sick or injured players, and follow the advice of a doctor or of the player’s parent on whether an injured player is ready to return.
• I will not arrive at a ground intoxicated, and I will not drink to excess at junior matches.
• I will respect the rights, dignity and worth of everyone involved in the game, whatever their gender, ability or cultural background.

Smoking

Smoking is banned in all spectator areas and on sports grounds during organised sporting events, including junior matches and training sessions.

When someone is asked to leave

Everyone involved in the game is responsible for keeping the standard of sportsmanship high, and for keeping the environment safe for players, staff and spectators.

Unruly behaviour is not tolerated. A person behaving that way may be removed from the ground, and the player they are associated with may be removed with them.

Serious offences, violations or damage to property are referred to Victoria Police and to other law enforcement agencies.

Decisions on the day

The umpire’s decision is final, and dissent from it is treated as a serious breach of this code. The coaches and captains decide batting and bowling order and fielding placements. Parents and players abide by those decisions.
