December 2026 season
The league season — turf T20 in Melbourne across the three franchises, with squads picked from everyone who registers.
What the season is
The December window is the league's main season: T20 cricket played on turf, with appointed officials, scoring and statistics, so a performance exists as a record afterwards rather than only in someone's memory.
Around 150 players take part across the tournament, spread across the Western Falcons, Eastern Panthers and Northern Warriors. The franchises are Melbourne-based but not postcode-bound, and the league has never been Victorians-only — players have come from across Australia, and from overseas.
Who can play
The league is not a junior competition, whatever it used to be called. The December season is open to boys and girls, and to senior men and women, across the age groups each franchise fields.
Where a player lives does not decide whether they can play. The season is open to players from anywhere in Australia, and to players travelling from overseas. What decides it is the age group: a player has to meet the criteria for the division they register in, and provide proof of age. That proof is checked at enrolment and is not kept on file.

How selection works
You register for the season, not for a franchise. Squads are then picked from everyone who has registered, and you are told which franchise you are in before the season starts.
Players who have played a VECL season before do not go through team selection again for December 2026. Team selection is for players new to the league.
That exemption applies to this tournament and to nothing else. Selection for the Victorian Elite – KIOC High Performance International Pathway is a separate process, and every player goes through it — including players who have been with VECL for seasons. Playing here does not carry a place in the pathway with it.
The selectors' decision is final and is not open to negotiation.

If you are also on the international pathway
The two fit together by design. Players selected for the pathway spend eight days at KIOC in Bengaluru in December and come home to play this tournament — the camp is scheduled so that they arrive back prepared for it rather than missing it.
They are still separate registrations. The chooser sets out which is which.
